The bible gives us three ways of handling our money: tithes, offering and alms. A tithe is 10% of your income and goes to God by giving to your church. This starts a cycle of blessing on your household. Out of the overflow you give offerings out of your free will. An offering is a gift to a person or cause that is a good field that you wish to sow into. And alms are when you give to the poor where your right hand doesn’t know what your left hand is doing. Alms are given in secret and your Father in heaven promises that there will be a reward.
Malachi 3:10-11 says “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty.”
This is a great promise! The Lord says, “Test me in this” and He surely will be faithful to provide for you and your family.
Tips for Getting Started:
1) Tithe. This is not a law, but rather an act of faith in God that was first demonstrated by Abraham. Choosing to tithe is an act of faith between you and the Lord and a great first step.
2)Keep Track. Take note of the creative ways the Lord provides for you. Be expectant of checks in the mail, bonuses, side jobs or extra work, commissions and inheritances. The Lord WILL be faithful to provide!
3) Take Charge. There are great tools available for developing a budget, managing your finances and getting out of debt. A few resources include:
