Dear House Family,
Recently, during one of my quiet times, I stumbled across a beloved verse that I hadn’t thought about in a while.
2 Samuel 14:14 NLT “All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God does not just sweep life away; instead, He devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from Him.”
In the NASB it says that God “plans ways so that the banished one will not be cast out from Him.” What a beautiful verse. What a loving God! It isn’t just that He doesn’t want us to be separated from Him, but He actually devises or plans ways for us to be be reconciled to Him!
Another way that this can read, is that God “schemes, plots, ponders, calculates or invents” ways for those that are separated to be brought back to Him. Have you ever schemed or plotted for something? Have you ever had a situation that bothered you (good or bad) that you pondered about? Have you ever been faced with a problem that had no obvious solution so you were forced to invent one?
That is what our Father does when it comes to those that are lost and separated from Him. It isn’t just that He has a small moment of sadness about it and then moves on with life. No, instead, He does something about it!
And, do you know what it is that He does? He sends us to bring the lost ones back. His children. The body of Christ. Me. You. Us.
By the way, this is a privilege, not a burden. But, it is also an obligation. Paul says (in Romans 1) that he is under obligation to all people, that he is eager to preach the gospel, as it is saves those that believe. You see, those of us that have experienced this kind of power ourselves can’t help but have our hearts stirred towards those that are still banished. Those that are separated from God and have yet to taste of His love. We are the answer to bring God’s lost ones home!
This is as simple as sharing His love with people as we journey through life. But, it also needs to be much more intentional than that. As the Lord Himself “schemed and plotted and invented” ways for the lost to come home, so should we. As we intentionally devise ways to introduce people to their Creator—to bring them back to their loving Father—we will be changing the world, and changing ourselves in the process.
Why engage? Because, like Paul, we are under obligation to share the the miraculous, life-changing power of God to those that have yet to encounter it.
I’m so excited about this season. I’m so blessed to be a part of it. And, I’m so thankful that you are on this journey with me.
